Australian College Student’s ION drive surpasses NASA

An Australian university student has reportedly developed a new kind of ion space drive that absolutely obliterates NASA’s current fuel efficiency record.

Ion drives are propulsion systems that basically work by throwing particles backwards really, really fast in order to propel a spacecraft forward. NASA’s current record holder for fuel efficiency is its High Power Electric Propulsion, or HiPEP, system, which allows 9,600 (+/- 200) seconds of specific impulse, which is pretty impressive. But the new drive developed by University of Sydney PhD student Paddy Neumann has achieved up to 14,690 (+/- 2,000), according to student newspaper Honi Soit.

The is an incredibly exciting claim, but we need to be clear that the results have yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, so we need to take them with a proverbial grain of salt. Neumann has, however, applied for a patent and will be presenting his results on 30 September at the 15th Australian Space Research Conference, where we’ll hopefully be presented with some more concrete evidence.

What’s so innovative about the new drive is that it uses a whole new type of fuel. NASA’s HiPEP system runs on xenon gas, but Neumann’s ion drive can instead run on a range of metals, with the best results currently achieved using magnesium.

These types of metals are readily available in space junk, which means that the system could be a whole lot cheaper, and could one day be fuelled using material harvested from old satellites. If we could work out how to do that, it would make things even more affordable, as it would save on the exorbitant cost of carting fuel into space.

The Neumann ion drive works by hitting the fuel source – in this case solid magnesium – with electric arcs, which causes ions to spray off. These ions are then channelled through a thrust-producing magnetic nozzle, resulting in forward propulsion, just like you’d get if you were floating in a pool on a lilo and threw beer cans behind you (because who hasn’t done that?)

“Unlike current industry standard chemical propulsion devices, which operate through short, high-powered bursts of thrust and then coasting, Neumann’s drive runs on a continuous rhythm of short and light bursts, preserving the fuel source but requiring long-term missions,” write Joanna Connolly and Peter Walsh from Honi Soit.

But while the Neumann Drive outperforms NASA’s HiPEP system when it comes to fuel efficiency, it falls short when it comes to acceleration, which means it probably wouldn’t be ideal to power a spacecraft off a planet. But it could easily be paired with other propulsion systems to transport cargo and passengers over long distances without having to stop and refuel.

Neumann told Honi Soit that with some tweaking the system could potentially power a spacecraft to “Mars and back on one tank of fuel”.

For some reason, the University of Sydney’s commercial arm decided not to commercialise the invention, and so the intellectual property has passed back to Neumann two other researchers that were involved in the project. They’ve now applied for a patent under the company name Neumann Space, and are looking to secure funding to further develop the propulsion system. If the claims hold up to further testing, we’re pretty sure that SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, or NASA would be interested.

In a week where we’ve seen a 14-year-old boy persecuted for experimenting with engineering, it’s pretty awesome to hear about a student’s ingenuity leading to the creation of a device that could one day help to transport humanity further through space. We’re looking forward to hearing more about Neumann’s ion drive at the end of the month.

Well friends, as some of you already know about it, so I decided to tell some details of the visit I made to the interior of a service spacecraft of the fleet from Mantuk, Andromeda. I do not enjoy sharing my experiences, because sometimes they sound unreal through even to myself… how much more for those who are reading this. But even that is hard to believe, each decides by itself about it.
OK, let’s start from the beginning. Late last year, I was discussing a relocation of a former member of an alien team that has been lost in our society as we have done several times, when Mythi told me he had to return to the ship for some time for some unfinished business, I’ve said goodbye when he asked if I wanted to go with him there for a few minutes… well, I did not believe it at first because I had tried to “force this bar” on other occasions over last tree year without success, but he said: “It’s okay, I told the staff that would take you there to know”… He was smart and took me by surprise, leaving no room for me to discuss the possibility of being able to carry a camera with me… When I least expected it I was in a small reception area where the roof seemed to be entirely material emitting environment light.
When I finally realized that I had been transported I had a sudden pressure drop, and minutes later I was lying on a kind of litter, with a small medical touching my shoulder. She had a very sweet look, only then I realized how much Mythi was ugly for the standards of themselves… hehe… a little joke … because I know he will read this story in any way.
So, I immediately got up feeling completely well, and as an engineer, began to examine everything trying to understand the internal dynamics of that place. We enter a hall that looked more like a tropical living room, octagonal format, with places to sit, a very comfortable lighting, and several plants in translucent balls with water or other fluid very pretty looking and different kinds of flowers in every corner. I could not imagine that kind of environment was within a small saucer. Well, when I thought about going to one or at most two cozy to know everything, I realized that I was onto something huge with many runners, several rooms, dormitories and antechambers. Any wiring, piping, buttons or controls, none of that… everything is controlled mentally. I noticed about 18 people in total, at least three different races, all very friendly. Some of them made it out to take my hand and greet me as Mythi told them that we do here…funny…
One of them, that Mythi introduced me as an “engineer” of the crew named “Tasid”, explained to me that everything there is molecularly programmed, and responds to mental commands of those responsible for certain functions in the crew. He took me to meet the “machine room”, and all I saw were 8 metallic half globes with a bigger in the center, and any control panel or noise in the room. A real disappointment for a “zero level engineer”!. I asked to see the “control room” and he took me there. There was a panel finally! But to my disappointment there were no buttons or lights flashing, or levers or joysticks. The operator passed his hand over a small brand and the ceiling went from “metal” to a special plasmic stage, and became transparent as crystal, and can see everything that was going on outside the ship and that was when I realized we were submerged in the ocean!
When I looked at the floor, the floor was also transparent that is, as he commanded the whole room was becoming transparent, as if we were floating in a glass bubble, with 360-degree vertical and horizontal view… We could see everything outside of spaceship, could observe each and every detail of the external environment. Surreal thing.  In that panel, there was a round frame like a large 2 meters metal hoop that I remembered having seen in several other rooms, I asked about it and he requested me to ask something to the system… I asked about the factory of spaceships and a 3D image start forming, I could clearly see the planet, and the system took me to the factory where they were being assembled hundreds of ships of several formats… I felt myself lost in space…
Then I saw the house where Mythi lives, and the whole neighborhood… I would not leave it there for anything, the more to come to study this piece of rock with its ignorant ants… but that is why they are level five, after all…
Suddenly I felt some interesting aroma, resembling a bit like vanilla, so I asked about food, where they kept food stocks, what kind they had there, and some explained to me that the food is not there … they have a terminal in the “dining rooms” that literally “materializes” the food that you want, and this food comes from “station supplies” specific to each planet of any of the breeds that are working on the spacecraft, that is, the other side of that “machine” is a permanent portal to anywhere you belong to. Unimaginable!
When I realize that the time was passing, I asked how everything could be contained in a spaceship of a maximum 80 meters in diameter by 10 meters high, and they explained to me another technology that I never knew before, and still do not quite understand how it works. He told me that everything is on another plane, linked to that ship, and the whole interior of the ship is like a permanent portal, that is, when you’re in those rooms, corridors or in the salons, you’re not really on the ship, you are in a reserved space parallel to that ship, but that is an integral part of ship, weird, this fantastic technology provides a great environment in a small space … like magic … they call “spatial realignment”. The “program” that controls it all works in real time and it’s like you pass from one environment to another without changing neither the luminosity nor the temperature. There is no visible central supercomputer, everything is programmed in the ship’s molecular structure … The structure controls the internal environment, the fields of force, mobility and maneuverability of the ship, etc… Can you imagine a technology like this? The “engineer” told me calmly that this technology of “spatial realignment” is new to them, has little more than 500 years of ours, but only in recent decades has been adapted for service spacecraft.  I asked if the ship had an accident what would happen with this technology? How would be the aspect of the ship? To which he replied: well, if the ship for any reason be out of operation, it will be like an empty shell, nothing and no crew will be seen inside. Can you guys imagine how small I felt with the simplicity of him with respect to technologies that we will take many thousands of years to achieve?
So I asked why the elites of my planet try to steal alien technology if they do not have the ability to copy it? to which he replied: “they do not seek advanced technologies, they seek for ancient technologies, which are liable to be better understood by your scientists, a ship like ours does not matter to them, but yes ships that fell 1000 years or more ago containing technologies more conventional, which would allow a re-engineering at some of the key functional or structural details”. From this explanation it became much clearer in my head about the “great efforts” of the elites in wanting to get hold of these old ships and artifacts, ancient wreckages on the Moon, and even the Black Knight.
At this point Mythi made me a sign that it was time to go and said goodbye to everyone, very friendly people.  I apologized for the intrusion at their affairs, and went into the room where I arrived on the ship and before I perceive I was back to where I was, saying goodbye to Mythi, and thanking him for the initiative he had for me. The only conclusion that I could get in this opportunity is that we are still so far behind that it hurts to think about it.
I hope this will give a brief idea to you about what we really are yet.

LED light bulb ‘li-fi’ closer, say Chinese scientists-LED lights could potentially provide internet connectivity

Wi-fi connectivity from a light bulb – or “li-fi” – has come a step closer, according to Chinese scientists.

A microchipped bulb can produce data speeds of up to 150 megabits per second (Mbps), Chi Nan, IT professor at Shanghai’s Fudan University told Xinhua News.

A one-watt LED light bulb would be enough to provide net connectivity to four computers, researchers say.

But experts told the BBC more evidence was needed to back up the claims.

There are no supporting video or photos showing the technology in action.

Li-fi, also known as visible light communications (VLC), at these speeds would be faster – and cheaper – than the average Chinese broadband connection.

In 2011, Prof Harald Haas, an expert in optical wireless communications at the University of Edinburgh, demonstrated how an LED bulb equipped with signal processing technology could stream a high-definition video to a computer.

He coined the term “light fidelity” or li-fi and set up a private company, PureVLC, to exploit the technology.

“We’re just as surprised as everyone else by this announcement,” PureVLC spokesman Nikola Serafimovski told the BBC.

“But how valid this is we don’t know without seeing more evidence. We remain sceptical.”

This year, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute claimed that data rates of up to 1Gbit/s per LED light frequency were possible in laboratory conditions, making one bulb with three colours potentially capable of transmitting data at up to 3Gbit/s.

Unlimited capacity

Li-fi promises to be cheaper and more energy-efficient than existing wireless radio systems given the ubiquity of LED bulbs and the fact that lighting infrastructure is already in place.

Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and 10,000 times bigger than the radio spectrum, affording potentially unlimited capacity.

But there are drawbacks: block the light and you block the signal.

However, this is also a potential advantage from a security point of view. Light cannot penetrate walls as radio signals can, so drive-by hacking of wireless internet signals would be far more difficult, if not impossible.

Prof Chi’s research team includes scientists from the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the report says.

She admitted that the technology was still in its infancy and needed further developments in microchip design and optical communication controls before it could go mass market.

Her team is hoping to show off sample li-fi kits at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai on 5 November, the report said.

The NSA before and after Roswell- more secrets, more UFOs

(This is an excerpt of an interview transcribed by journalist Sarah interviewing a member of a secret research organization two levels deep, unknown and unaccountable to the NSA…this is not recent breaking news, but will be news to most of Americans in the wake of the NSA scandal…)

Dr. Neruda: “There was, within our government, a newly formed intelligence agency — it was the forerunner of the NSA. It was known as the General Services Special Projects Laboratory, and to this day, very little is known about it. The SPL was later folded into the NSA in 1953 as an unacknowledged department, and ultimately the ACIO was folded into the SPL as an unacknowledged research laboratory. So, the ACIO was two levels deep or what is called, black root.”

Sarah: “What was the motivation for all the security? The war?”

Dr. Neruda: “It may surprise you, but the war wasn’t of great concern to the forces that the ACIO were dealing with. The concern was ETs and who would be able to first utilize their technology in military applications. In the early 1940s, UFO sightings were quite common — even more so than today. And our government was convinced that these sightings were real and that they were indeed off-planetary forces. They wanted two things: Steal the technology from downed spacecraft, or establish an alliance. They weren’t too particular about which way it happened.”

Sarah: “But how did all of this pertain to Shockley?”

Dr. Neruda: “I got off track a bit. Mr. Shockley was introduced to the SPL and was made privy to many of the secret initiatives of the SPL. If not for his personality traits, he would’ve been recruited to join the SPL, he was that brilliant. Anyway, he was given access to some of the research in field effect transistors that was underway within the SPL. This was before the Bell Labs’ discovery of the joint transistor, which was made by colleagues of Mr. Shockley.

“Mr. Shockley was allowed to utilize some of the research within the SPL to create his own version of the field effect transistor and become widely known as its inventor. This was done in exchange for his cooperation in helping Army and Navy strategic operations during the war. He was aware of the SPL and knew part of their agenda, and I was told that he wanted to join the SPL after the war because of its superior laboratories, but again, his personality traits prevented his admission.”

Sarah: “So, Bell Labs receives the patent for the transistor in exchange for Shockley’s assistance with the war. What exactly did he do that was so important?”

Dr. Neruda: “I don’t know for certain, but in general, his role was helping to optimize weapons deployment.”

Sarah: “What was the role of the NSA during all of this?”

Dr. Neruda: “The NSA wasn’t in existence until November 1952. During this time, the SPL and ACIO were the two most advanced, secretive labs in existence. And they each had only one private sector lab they worked with: Bell Labs. And this is because Mr. Kelly was a friend with the executive director of the SPL.”

Sarah: “So what was the relationship between the SPL and ACIO?”

Dr. Neruda: “You mean in the 1940s?”

Sarah: “First, how far back does it go?”

Dr. Neruda: “The SPL was formed in 1938. There was a strong development — particularly throughout Europe — in fission energy. The SPL was initially conceived to examine fission as an alternative energy source as well as its possible military applications.”

Sarah: “Why was it kept so secret?”

Dr. Neruda: “In the late 1930s there was significant political unrest in Europe, and the U.S. wasn’t sure whom it could trust. It had a notion that fission was the answer to superior technical warfare, and didn’t want to share it unwittingly. It was also alarmed at some of the sudden advances that were taking place in the European physics community, and felt it needed to concentrate some of its best resources to equip a world-class laboratory, and staff it with some of the best minds of the planet.”

Sarah: “How could the best minds of the planet suddenly be plucked up by the U.S. government and not be noticed by the scientific community? I mean, how do you keep this a secret?”

Dr. Neruda: “They didn’t take established leaders in the field of physics. They sought out the young, budding geniuses that were still relatively unknown, but under the right guidance and with the best available technology, could produce something extraordinary.”

Sarah: “Like the transistor?”

Dr. Neruda: “Like the transistor.”

Sarah: “So if the SPL was established in 1938, when did the ACIO come into existence?”

Dr. Neruda: “It was established in 1940 shortly after the SPL was organized.”

Sarah: “Why?”

Dr. Neruda: “In part it was because management within the SPL feared discovery by Congress, so they decided to construct Black Root, which was the codename of the ACIO, in order to build a laboratory that was untouchable by political forces or the media. Secondarily, they didn’t want the research agenda of the SPL competing with ET issues. When all of this first occurred, ETs and UFOs were still a subject of great debate within the SPL. Most of the SPL leaders didn’t believe in them. There was no hard evidence.

“But when the first spacecraft was found intact, it changed the minds of everyone within the SPL and it was decided that a separate research agenda needed to be developed, and that it was the more urgent and secretive of the two labs. So, Black Root, or the ACIO as it became known later, was established behind the SPL at a deeper level of secrecy. It was unacknowledged two levels deep.”

Sarah: “Were you referring to the Roswell incident just then — about the recovered spacecraft?”

Dr. Neruda: “No. This was an abandoned spacecraft found in waters off the coast of Florida in 1940.”

Sarah: “It was just abandoned? Who found it?”

Dr. Neruda: “As the story goes, a recreational diver found it in waters about sixty feet deep. It was perfectly preserved.”

Sarah: “Whatever happened to the diver?”

Dr. Neruda: “It was an anonymous tip given to the Navy. The person who discovered it was never found. However, we later learned that the discovery was a staged event.”

Sarah: “A staged event?”

Dr. Neruda: “Meaning that the discovery was orchestrated by the Corteum.”

Sarah: “So this was a Corteum spacecraft left behind to be discovered by the Navy?”

Dr. Neruda: “It’s how they chose to make first contact.”

Sarah: “By leaving behind one of their spacecraft in the ocean, and then calling our Navy and telling them where to find it? Shit this is strange!”

Dr. Neruda: “Yes, but it took three calls to get someone to investigate according to the log entries.”

Sarah: “Okay, so this is how the ACIO came about. When did you get involved?”

Dr. Neruda: “In 1956. My father discovered a damaged spacecraft in the jungles of Bolivia during a hunting trip. It was a triangular vessel about seventy meters from end-to-end, nearly equilateral. It included twenty-six crew. All dead.”

Sarah: “Corteum?”

Dr. Neruda: “No, this craft was later confirmed as a Zeta ship. It was on a scouting mission similar to my father — hunting for animals. Unfortunately, it malfunctioned in flight during an electrical storm. My father was an electronics dealer, mostly for the Bolivian military.

Sarah: “I know you told me this story before, but please repeat yourself for the sake of the record.”

Dr. Neruda: “My father recovered a specific technology from the ship, and then contacted a military official within the Bolivian government that was a trusted friend. Initially, my father was interested in selling the craft to the Bolivian military, but it quickly became a concern of the U.S. military — specifically the SPL. A director from the SPL met with my father, ascertained the ship’s location, and performed a complete salvage operation in the span of three days.

“This was done in exchange for U.S. citizenship and a role within the SPL for my father.”

Sarah: “Why did your father negotiate for this instead of money?”

Dr. Neruda: “He knew it was the only way to preserve his and my life. He retained control of a navigational technology that was aboard the ship, and turned everything else over to the SPL.”

Sarah: “And what about the Bolivian government?”

Dr. Neruda: “They were handsomely paid.”

Sarah: “That’s it?”

Dr. Neruda: “In the seven years between 1952 and 1959, six additional spacecraft were found under similar circumstances as in the case of my father. Only one of these was found in U.S. territory. The other five were willingly handed over to our military in exchange for money.”

Sarah: “I take it these countries didn’t want to deal with the political implications?”

Dr. Neruda: “That, but they also wanted the money and a friendly alignment with the U.S. military. They saw future benefits in the form of shared technologies, military protection, loans, and many other intangible benefits. In short, it was smart politics. Besides, no other country, outside of the Soviet Union, had any laboratories like the ACIO. What would they do with these spacecrafts?”
